TESLA active magnetic ranging system involves the measurement, from the wellbore being drilled, and generation of an alternating magnetic field within a parallel wellbore. The technology has been used for enhanced oil recovery of heavy crude oil and bitumen reservoirs. It is a fully automated system that has been utilized primarily for well pair placement, collision avoidance, or well intercept guidance.
Combined with RADAR (Real-time Analysis of Drilling and Advanced Ranging), TESLA alleviates additional personnel from the drilling location creating a reduction in HSE risk and operational cost. RADAR delivers accurate real-time well placement solutions in scenarios where standard MWD methodologies fail. The communication between TESLA and RADAR are automatically conveyed via satellite contracting survey time, and increasing the number of meters drilled per day.
TESLA Enhanced Ranging Technology can be deployed to detect and identify the location of an existing well location from 50 meters away. It is ideal for collision avoidance with vertical wells, present in active or developed oilfields. Pacesetter has eliminated the competitions need to pair the drilling motor with additional rotating equipment, alleviating additional risk of twist off while drilling or back-reaming.
When production tubing, steam splitters, wellhead restrictions or other production equipment cannot be removed from the conveyance well, TESLA Mini is the solution with a miniaturized 2” diameter.
